Tommy Byrnes has been guitarist Billy Joel on stage and in the studio for many years, and is no stranger to Hamer guitars. In April Joel and band came to Connecticut for a record five sold out performances at the Civic Center. While in town Tommy received delivery of his custom order Hamer Studio, presented backstage by none other than Jol Dantzig himself.
The guitar went from its case directly to the stage, requiring zero set-up by Tommy’s tech, the world-famous “Chainsaw” LaPointe. Later that night, Tommy utilized his new Hamer in the set without reservation.
Billy Joel brandished a Hamer Artist model for “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and sideman extraordinaire Mark Rivera played his black Monaco III as well. A Hamer night in Hartford, as it should be!
