"Watson" Model Tobacco Sunburst Quilt Top

Duncan Parallel Axis humbuckers give the Watson a fat sound, even on the highest notes.
Swoopy contours, extra frets and vintage appointments make this guitar a paradox of guitar sensibilities, but somehow it all works.
 

   




 
The dark rosewood fingerboard begged for the inlay-delete option in order to show off the extra frets. One of my favorite details is the fret marker dot on the fingerboard's end.
The guitars/customshoper requested our Sustain Block bridge—a perfect choice to pump up the vintage side of the equation. Not every guitar looks "right" with a quilt top, but it's hard to argue with this one.
 




Here's a good look at the one-piece of Honduras mahogany back with beautiful ribbons of grain. You can also see the string anchors and tummy bevel in this shot.
The deep cutaways allow access to all twenty-seven frets and provided us with the opportunity to blend the heel, an old school Hamer trick that goes all the way back to our first models. This photo illustrates why I call our builders artists—it's pure sculpture!
